Criminal gangs target Student Loans Company, more than £6.5m of tax
payers’ money was paid out on fraudulent student loan applications. The
fraudsters provide false exam certificates to applicants who then apply
for university courses and student loans. The gang would charge £1000
for the certificates and also took a cut from the loan payments. Another
method used to scam unsuspecting students would be to pose as their
student loan company in an email asking them to update their details.
The link would appear to be going to the official website but it would,
in fact, take them to a website controlled by fraudster who would take
their money.
